How We Help

Find Help

Find Help

We are more than fundraisers.

Although we spend the bulk of our time fundraising and investing in programs run by our partner agencies, our work doesn't stop there. We see the big picture and offer programs that fill the gaps in service in our area.

  • 2-1-1
    2-1-1

The 2-1-1 hotline is a nationwide program that connects callers to a trained representative who is familiar with the resources available in its service area. Instead of multiple calls leading to dead ends, people can make one call to 2-1-1 and reach a specialist who assesses a caller's full scope of needs and matches them to the right services. In West Tennessee, our 2-1-1 hotline is operated from our Jackson office and is available from 8:00 - 4:30 on weekdays.

  • As an extension of 2-1-1, United Way of West Tennessee’s 211 Hub is an online database for agencies and individuals to find and share resources. By streamlining information through one channel, the 211 Hub furthers collaboration among local agencies and enables them to communicate with and serve the people of West Tennessee more effectively.

  • Christmas Partners
    Christmas Partners

It's the most wonderful time of the year. Each holiday season, United Way of West Tennessee partners with dozens of local organizations to provide Christmas Assistance to families in need. By receiving applications and preventing the duplication of services among our partner organizations, United Way maximizes the number of families in need receiving assistance each year. We start taking applications for assistance in October each year.

  • Disaster Relief
    Disaster Relief

Each year, thousands of lives are disrupted by crisis, and during those times, West Tennesseans have proven to be some of the most generous. But collecting those donations and getting them to the right places doesn't just happen. During Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, United Way of West Tennessee collected donations, coordinated volunteers, and assisted the American Red Cross in storing, packaging, and transporting goods to places in need. United Way of West Tennessee has been there to assist area residents through disasters in the past, and our Disaster Relief Services stand ready to assist again whenever necessary.

  • Free Tax Prep
    Free Tax Prep

United Way and BancorpSouth are helping West Tennesseeans take control of their refunds. Qualified individuals have their taxes prepared each year for free by one of our VITA-certified volunteers. Together, we maximize the credits and refunds these individuals are eligible for. We will begin taking appointments for the 2018 Tax Season in January 2019. Call our office for more information.

  • #GivingTuesday731 is a collaboration of over 90 nonprofits across West Tennessee and has a mission of rallying the 731 community together to support their neighbors in need. From fighting food insecurity to sheltering the homeless, this annual event, which occurs every GivingTuesday, gives nonprofits the opportunity to work together while providing others with the chance to support the causes they are passionate about.

  • SingleCare negotiates discounted prices on medication and passes those savings on to cardholders.

  • The Tennessee Afterschool Network (TAN) supports children, youth, families and communities by advocating and building capacity with a unified voice for sustainable investments in safe, healthy, and nurturing after school experiences.

  • Formerly known as ARISE2Read of JacksonMadison County (referred to as TeamRead within the school system), The Read Team launched in Jackson in 2014 and was based on a model initiated in Memphis two years prior. Serving six JMCSS elementary schools, volunteers through multiple churches and the community-at-large provide literacy
assistance to second graders with the aim of helping them attain grade-level reading skills by third grade.
