FCC

Ford Community Centers around the world bring nonprofits, residents and community leaders together to expand access to essential services, education and economic opportunities. Each center in the global network is designed to meet the unique needs of the community it serves.

The Ford Community Center (FCC) located near BlueOval City in Stanton is an exciting partnership between Ford Philanthropy, the United Way of West Tennessee, and several community partners and local organizations.

Over the last year and a half, residents and partner organizations developed an ambitious plan to build the newest Ford Community Center, a physical location with co-located services to help long-term residents of communities around the BlueOval City area move forward and upward by connecting them with services, opportunities, local leaders, and each other.

Services that visitors can find offered within the Ford Community Center include educational programming, coordinated access to essential support services, legal assistance, financial education, job placement services, transportation assistance, and food and healthcare resources. The Ford Community Center is also proud to host and support community events throughout the year.

The permanent home of the center will be located on the same campus as the temporary facility, in the historic Stanton School. When the renovations of the school are completed, the Ford Community Center will offer community gathering space, a coffee shop, internet access, and expanded educational programming.

While Ford Philanthropy supports the operation of Ford Community Centers around the world, the Stanton location has a special history.

The former schoolhouse for African Americans, located on the property of Stanton’s Mt. Zion Baptist Church, served generations of students until 1969 and was later used for community programs like Head Start before falling into disrepair in 2011. This renovation project will not only preserve a vital piece of local history but will create a space for community progress once again.

Thanks to the generous support from the State of Tennessee’s Connected Community Facility Grant and Historic Development Grant, the schoolhouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is slated to undergo a full renovation and upgrade to modern infrastructure in order to serve as the Ford Community Center for Stanton and the surrounding communities.
