Our work at United Way is driven by four impact areas: health, youth opportunity, financial stability, and community resiliency. Though each area focuses on different aspects of a person's life, they all work together to help ensure everyone can access the resources and tools they need to holistically thrive. In West Tennessee, we offer localized support through programs and initiatives that address each impact area, and we are continually looking for ways of furthering this access within our community.

OUR IMPACT AREAS

Health

Improving health and wellbeing for all. Health is not just physical, but it also includes our emotional and spiritual wellbeing. Our focus in this area includes healthcare access, maternal and child health, nutrition and food security, healthy spaces and physical activity, chronic and infectious disease awareness and prevention, mental health support, and substance misuse recovery and prevention.

Youth Opportunity

Helping young people realize their full potential. At the heart of United Way’s mission is the understanding that our future success begins with our youth. Many of our programs focus on youth opportunity, because we want to ensure the next generation of leaders is well-equipped to thrive and serve our community. Our focus in this area includes childcare and early childhood education, in-school, after-school and summer learning, family engagement, literacy development, college and career readiness, and more.

Financial Stability

Creating a strong financial future for every generation. Even as our region grows, financial hurdles remain significant for many families. To ensure families thrive — not just survive — we partnered with local banks, educational institutions, and nonprofits to establish the Greater Jackson Financial Empowerment Center, with locations in Jackson, Brownsville, and Martin. Here, individuals can access free financial counseling, learn budgeting strategies, and pursue pathways to bigger dreams like home ownership or entrepreneurship.

Community Resiliency

Addressing urgent needs today for a better tomorrow. In addition to supporting individuals, we also created initiatives and programs to further address the needs of local families, nonprofits, students, and professionals. Crisis hotline and support, emergency preparedness, and disaster relief and recovery, are a few of the services we offer our community, especially during seasons of greater need.
