Trey Cunningham joined United Way in February 2025 as Financial Empowerment Counselor for Haywood, Crockett, and Hardeman counties. In this role, he helps individuals and families achieve financial stability through education and support, working to enhance financial literacy and empower communities.

A Tennessee native, Trey began his journey in high school, where he served as a member of the P-12 Policy Task Force and later served as Student Voice Network Lead for the Education Trust in Tennessee. These roles sparked his passion for educational equity, which he continued to champion throughout college.

While at Tennessee State University, Trey served as Representative-at-Large to Financial Aid, advocating for improved access to financial resources for students. He also held leadership positions in the NAACP, including President of the TSU Chapter and Middle Tennessee Vice President for Youth & College, where he advanced civic participation and youth leadership.

After graduation, Trey worked in International Accounting for one of the nation’s leading logistics companies, where he honed his skills in strategic operations and customer relationship management.

Trey holds a Bachelor in Healthcare Administration & Planning with a Minor in General Business Administration from Tennessee State University. He is Lean Six Sigma Management Certified and holds a certificate in Bioinformatics from Morehouse School of Medicine. His work continues to focus on creating lasting impact through advocacy, financial literacy, and community development.
