On September 6, the Jackson Grown Leader Fellowship program officially began it's 4th year with an inspiring kick-off meeting, aptly titled "Building a Better World," setting the stage to help lay the foundations for opportunities and contributions by the youth of Jackson-Madison County. The event was highlighted by a keynote speech from Brad Montague, a nationally recognized author, speaker, and creator, who delivered a powerful and motivating message to the 15 high school students selected to be Fellows for the program.
Montague, known for his work in inspiring young minds, captivated the audience with his heartfelt message. He spoke directly to the students about the universal desire for love and belonging, encouraging them to "be who you needed when you were younger." His words resonated deeply, igniting a sense of purpose and responsibility among the students as they embark on this transformative journey.
The theme of "Building a Better World" was woven throughout the event, serving as a perfect reflection of the program's mission and the aspirations of its participants. The title encapsulated the spirit of the day, emphasizing the importance of nurturing the next generation to create positive change in their communities and beyond. Summer Nichols, a veteran Jackson Grown volunteer mentor, together with Jackson Grown Program Manager Lisbon Lopes spoke about the year ahead and provided insights for the new Fellows about what to expect and how best to use the program as a springboard to contribute to the community and the world around them.
The Kickoff event was attended by representatives from the Leaders Education Foundation, a proud supporter of the Jackson Grown Leader Fellowship program, along with mentors and members of the United Way of West Tennessee. All were united in their shared belief in the potential of these 15 incredible young individuals, recognizing their capacity to grow into future leaders who will make a meaningful impact on their communities.
The kickoff meeting was more than just an introduction to the program; it was a celebration of potential and a call to action. The energy in the room was palpable, with students, mentors, and supporters alike leaving the event with a renewed sense of excitement and optimism for what lies ahead.
