United Way Receives Community Impact Grant to Fund All-Star Readers Program

United Way of West Tennessee proudly received a Community Impact Grant of $10,000 from the Community Foundation of West Tennessee.

United Way of West Tennessee proudly received a Community Impact Grant of $10,000 from the Community Foundation of West Tennessee. This grant will fund the All-Star Readers program, which aims to foster a love for reading among children from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade across 15 counties in West Tennessee.

The All-Star Readers program brings together two reading incentive programs: Rockabillys Readers, in partnership with the Jackson Rockabillys, and Skyhawk Scholars, in partnership with UT-Martin Athletics. These collaborations will help create an engaging and supportive environment that encourages young students to develop strong reading habits. Program participants will also have an opportunity to interact with athletes, attend special events, and be mentored by role models who emphasize education and literacy.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Community Foundation of West Tennessee for their support,” Legon Roberson, Director of Grants Management and Special Projects at United Way of West Tennessee expressed. “The All-Star Readers program will significantly impact our community by promoting literacy and providing children with the resources and encouragement they need to become confident readers."

"We are deeply grateful to the Community Foundation of West Tennessee for their generous grant,” Kaitlyn Mingle, Director of Early Education Initiatives at United Way stated. “The All-Star Readers program is a testament to the power of community partnerships in creating a brighter future for our children. By combining the efforts of the Jackson Rockabillys and UT-Martin Athletics, we are creating a dynamic and engaging initiative that will inspire a lifelong love of reading in young students."

The Community Foundation of West Tennessee is dedicated to supporting initiatives that create positive and lasting change in the region. By funding the All-Star Readers program, the Foundation is addressing the critical need for early literacy development that is essential for academic success and lifelong achievement.
